What does a Content Designer do?
A Content Designer shapes the words, microcopy, and content structures that appear across digital products, interfaces, marketing materials, and learning experiences. Day-to-day they work closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineers to write interface copy, error messages, onboarding flows, and help content that reduces friction for users. Depending on specialisation they may also produce social video scripts, training materials, brand communications, or AI conversation design, always balancing clarity, tone of voice, and user need against business goals.
Key responsibilities
- Write and iterate on UX copy, microcopy, and interface strings for digital products
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams in agile workflows
- Define and maintain content standards, style guides, and content patterns
- Conduct content audits and apply plain-language principles to improve usability
- Design conversational flows or AI-assisted content experiences where required
- Develop training, help-centre, or learning content for internal or customer-facing use
