Feed Toggle Decision Guide

Use this framework to decide when to toggle Reels feed visibility for maximum reach across audience segments.

Content TypeAudienceFeed ToggleGoalBest For
Intro ContentNew / non-followersON (visible in feed)Discovery and new follower acquisitionBroad topics, trending audio, high shareability
Maintenance ContentExisting followersOFF (profile only)Deepening trust and retentionNiche deep-dives, personal stories, community building
Hybrid ContentBoth segmentsON (visible in feed)Retention + discovery balanceEvergreen tips, relatable experiences, universal hooks
When to Use Each Type

Intro content should make up roughly 60-70% of your Reels if you are actively growing. Once you hit a follower milestone, shift toward 50/50. Maintenance content is what turns followers into fans, so never skip it even during growth phases.

2

Content Pillar Builder

Define your content pillars for each audience segment. Aim for 2-3 pillars per segment.

Intro Content Pillars (For New Audiences)

Topics that attract new followers and drive discovery.

Maintenance Content Pillars (For Existing Followers)

Topics that deepen trust and keep your community engaged.

Pillar Selection Tip

Your intro pillars should answer the question "Why should I follow this person?" while your maintenance pillars should answer "Why should I keep following and engage?" The overlap between these two is where your best hybrid content lives.

3

Weekly Content Planner

Plan your weekly content split between intro and maintenance Reels. Aim for a balance that matches your current growth goals.

Planning Strategy

For the Segment column, write "Intro," "Maintenance," or "Hybrid." For Feed Toggle, write "ON" or "OFF." Start with 4-5 Reels per week and increase once you find your rhythm. Batch-film similar segments on the same day to save time.

Segmentation Analytics Tracker

Track performance per content type to see which segments drive the most growth and engagement.

What to Look For

Compare non-follower reach percentage between Intro and Maintenance content. Intro Reels should have a higher non-follower percentage (60%+). If your Maintenance content also has high non-follower reach, your feed toggle might be set incorrectly. Saves and shares are the strongest signals that your segmentation is working.
