How to Use This Library
Do not copy these hooks word-for-word. Use them as frameworks. Replace the bracketed text with specific details from your niche. The more specific your hook is to your audience's exact pain point, the better it will perform. Test 2-3 variations of each formula to find what resonates with your followers.
Visual Hook Checklist
Your first 3 seconds need visual hooks just as much as verbal ones. Check every element before publishing.
- Text overlay appears in the first frame with a clear, readable hook
- Movement starts immediately Movement or action starts immediately (no static opening shots)
- Face is visible and making eye contact with the camera within 1 second
- High contrast between subject and background so the eye is drawn in
- Subject framing Subject is centered or positioned using rule of thirds
- Bright or bold colors that stand out in a scrolling feed
- No intro animation No logo intro, no fade-in, no countdown -- straight into the hook
- Audio hook (voice or music) starts in the first half-second
3-8-12 Content Planner
Plan your content around three attention milestones: 3 seconds (hook), 8 seconds (value tease), and 12 seconds (commitment point).
| Content Piece | 3 sec: Hook | 8 sec: Value Tease | 12 sec: Commitment Point | Total Length | Hook Formula Used | |

The 3-8-12 Framework
3 seconds: Stop the scroll. Your hook must create enough curiosity or value to prevent the thumb from swiping. 8 seconds: Tease the payoff. Give viewers a reason to keep watching by previewing the value they will get. 12 seconds: Lock in commitment. By this point, viewers have invested enough time that they are likely to watch the rest. Every second before 12 is about earning the next second.
Platform Strategy Guide
Each platform weights the first 3 seconds differently. Adjust your hook strategy based on where you are posting.
Instagram Reels
Algorithm heavily weights watch time and replays. Your hook must stop the scroll AND create enough curiosity for a full watch-through. Text overlays and face-to-camera hooks perform best. Sound-on is common.
TikTok
Algorithm pushes content to non-followers, so your hook must work for cold audiences who do not know you. Pattern interrupts and curiosity gaps perform best. Sound-on is expected. Trends can boost initial distribution.
YouTube Shorts
Watch time matters most for Shorts promotion. Hooks that promise clear value or a payoff keep viewers watching. Numbered lists and how-to formats work well. Shorts can drive subscribers to long-form content.
LinkedIn Video
Professional audience scrolls differently. Lead with a bold professional insight or contrarian take. Text-heavy hooks work because many watch without sound. Authority and social proof hooks outperform entertainment hooks.
Hook Performance Tracker
Track which hook formulas perform best for your audience. Test systematically and double down on what works.
| Post / Reel | Hook Formula Used | Platform | Views | Watch Time % | Saves | Shares | Top Performer? | |

Testing Hook Formulas
Test one hook formula at a time across 3-5 posts before judging performance. Track views, watch time percentage, saves, and shares. Your best-performing hook formula should become your go-to, but continue testing new formulas to keep your content fresh and avoid audience fatigue.
