UX Writer Jobs
What does a UX Writer do?
A UX Writer owns the language layer of a digital product, writing and refining the microcopy that guides users through interfaces, from button labels, tooltips, and empty states to error messages, onboarding sequences, and in-app notifications. Working closely with product designers, product managers, and researchers, they translate complex functionality into plain, consistent language that reduces friction and builds user confidence. They participate in design reviews, contribute to content design systems, and use user research and usability testing to validate whether their copy actually helps people complete tasks.
Key responsibilities
- Write microcopy for UI elements: buttons, labels, tooltips, error and success messages
- Develop and maintain voice, tone, and style guidelines for the product
- Collaborate with product designers in Figma or similar tools to integrate copy directly into designs
- Partner with UX researchers to test whether copy aids task completion
- Audit existing product copy for consistency, clarity, and accessibility
- Contribute to and enforce a content design system or pattern library
