What does a YouTube Producer do?
A YouTube Producer oversees the full lifecycle of a YouTube channel's content, from concept development and scripting through filming, editing, publishing, and performance analysis. They work closely with on-screen talent, editors, and marketing teams to ensure each video is optimized for search and audience retention, while maintaining a consistent upload schedule and brand voice. Day-to-day work includes briefing editors, writing titles and descriptions with SEO in mind, reviewing thumbnails, monitoring analytics to inform future content decisions, and managing community engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Develop video concepts and content calendars aligned with channel strategy
- Write or review scripts, titles, descriptions, and tags for SEO
- Coordinate production workflow between talent, videographers, and editors
- Review and approve edits, thumbnails, and end screens before publishing
- Analyze channel analytics (watch time, CTR, retention) to guide content decisions
- Manage upload schedules and community tab or Shorts strategy
