Job Description:

Blue Water Thinking is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information Technology, Operations Triage Group (OTG). This role will develop clear, concise technical communications, reports, briefs, presentations, summaries, and white papers for VA stakeholders.

The Technical Writer will work with technical and program teams to translate complex information into accessible, audience-appropriate content in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, edit, and refine technical reports, briefs, summaries, presentations, and white papers.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear content for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Tailor messaging, format, and level of detail based on audience and purpose.
  • Proofread and edit materials for accuracy, consistency, tone, and compliance with VA and OTG standards.
  • Work with stakeholders to clarify requirements, objectives, and desired outcomes.
  • Collaborate with SREs, data scientists, AI engineers, technical SMEs, and other team members.
  • Coordinate multiple work products, priorities, and deadlines across teams.
  • Support technical documentation related to systems, data flows, integrations, and IT operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or another technical discipline, or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 3+ years of related experience in technical writing, communications, documentation, or project coordination.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common collaboration tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Federal government experience, particularly supporting VA or DoD.
  • Experience in IT operations, reliability engineering, SRE, data science, analytics, or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of federal data standards, compliance requirements, or IT governance.
  • Experience supporting senior government stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with ITIL, Problem Management, or Change Management.
  • Experience working in remote or distributed teams.

Eligibility:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required federal Public Trust clearance.

Compensation:

Salary is based on factors including location, experience, skills, contract affordability, and organizational requirements.

Salary Range: $55,000-$63,000
