Job Description
The Role
The Social Media Manager leads our social presence through a combination of agency management and hands-on delivery. They are responsible for briefing, directing, and quality-controlling external agencies and creators who produce our social content, while owning strategy, boosting, community, and performance in-house. They will grow and engage audiences across LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube, with a strong eye for trends, creative judgement to push agencies beyond safe work, and the ability to turn content into measurable results.
Working with the Marketing Director, Head of Marketing, senior stakeholders and external vendors to support the overarching marketing strategy and commercial objectives through increased brand engagement, community growth, and social media campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Agency and creative management
- Own the day-to-day relationship with social and creative agencies: briefing, creative direction, feedback, and final sign-off.
- Write sharp, insight-led briefs that give agencies clear objectives, audience, tone, and success measures — and push back when creative doesn't meet the standard.
- Manage agency workflows, content calendars, and deadlines across multiple events running in parallel; ensure nothing ships late or off-brand.
- Quality-control all agency output: brand voice, visual identity, accuracy, and platform fit. Act as final checkpoint before anything goes live.
- Review agency performance regularly against agreed KPIs and deliverables; manage scopes, escalate issues, and get maximum value from every retainer.
- Spot when work should move in-house versus agency, and brief internal designers and videographers when speed matters.
Strategy and campaigns
- Set and implement social media campaigns aligned with marketing strategies and event milestones: launches, registration pushes, early-bird deadlines, and show days.
- Design and deliver targeted content across platforms to increase engagement, followers, and retention — including short-form video (Reels, TikTok, Shorts) built for each platform's algorithm.
- Maintain the voice of the brand in all posts and interactions. Ensure every piece of content has a purpose and meets the needs of the target audience.
- Copywriting excellence: create and edit impactful, channel-appropriate copy with flawless proofreading in English (Arabic a strong advantage).
- Deliver live event coverage: directing agency/on-site teams to capture, edit, and publish in real time during show days.
Boosting and paid amplification
- Plan and execute boosting strategies: identify top-performing organic content and amplify with paid spend to reach targeted audiences.
- Manage boosting budgets, audience targeting, and A/B testing of creative and copy to maximise reach and conversion at the lowest cost.
- Work with the paid media team so boosted content complements broader paid campaigns rather than duplicating them.
- Retarget engaged social audiences to drive registrations and commercial outcomes, not just impressions.
Community and engagement
- Schedule, post, and engage on all social content. Respond to comments, messages, and queries in a timely manner.
- Grow and maintain the community year-round, not only during event season; ensure members feel part of the group and get real value.
- Identify and work with influencers, industry voices, and advocates; support speaker and employee advocacy to extend organic reach.
- Encourage and curate user-generated content from attendees, exhibitors, and partners.
Data and insight
- Employ a metrics-driven approach across all activity. Track and report monthly: reach, engagement, follower growth, traffic, and conversions to registration — including agency performance against KPIs.
- Use social listening to monitor brand sentiment, competitor activity, and market trends; feed insights back into briefs and plans.
- Conduct market research with a focus on customer insight and experience.
Collaboration
- Build positive relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels; relay the voice of the customer across the wider marketing team.
Qualifications
- 4 to 5 years experience in social media marketing, with demonstrable experience managing external agencies or creative teams.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube is essential.
- Proven experience running boosted and paid social campaigns, including budget management and audience targeting (Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, or equivalent).
- Strong creative judgement: able to brief, critique, and improve agency work, not just approve it.
- Experience with scheduling and analytics tools (e.g. Sprout, Hootsuite, or native tools).
- English fluency essential, Arabic an advantage.
