Location: Stirling, Western Australia
Type: Max Term Part Time (0.8 FTE) ending 30 June 2027
Salary: From $104,373.21 base salary + super (based on experience)

At the City of Stirling, we believe community engagement is about more than asking questions. It’s about listening and responding with a local focus. 

As a Community Engagement Officer, you’ll help get everyone involved in shaping what it means to be ‘a local’. You’ll work alongside residents, community groups, businesses and colleagues to understand local priorities, strengthen connections and help turn community conversations into local action. 

Working across our 30 suburbs, you’ll help strengthen the relationships, earn trust and shared ownership needed to achieve stronger local outcomes. You’ll connect people, projects and places, ensuring community voices are considered as the City plans, delivers and improves its projects, services and initiatives. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Plan and deliver community engagement projects and activities. 

• Facilitate meaningful two-way conversations with community members and stakeholders. 

• Build trusted relationships with local people, community organisations, businesses and City teams. 

• Help identify local priorities, challenges and opportunities. 

• Connect people, projects and places to support stronger local outcomes. 

• Support Local Focus Plans, suburb pages and other Locally-led Stirling initiatives. 

• Create opportunities for collaboration, participation and local action. 

• Gather, analyse and share community feedback and local insights. 

• Champion an engagement approach built on asking early, asking everyone, asking for advice and taking the time to listen. 

• Help close the loop by demonstrating how community input has informed decisions and outcomes.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring 

• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement, place management or a related discipline. 

• Strong knowledge of contemporary community, stakeholder and place-based engagement practice. 

• Proven ability to build constructive and ongoing relationships. 

• Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict-management skills. 

• Experience working with diverse communities, including multicultural, non-English-speaking and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. 

• The ability to turn local knowledge and community insights into practical outcomes. 

• A collaborative, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently. 

• Experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement, place planning, place management or activation. 

• Local government experience is desirable.
