What does a Broadcast Producer do?
A Broadcast Producer manages the full lifecycle of video or audio productions, from initial concept and scripting through to final delivery on air or online. Day-to-day they coordinate crews, manage production schedules and budgets, liaise with directors, editors, and on-screen talent, and ensure each piece of content meets both editorial guidelines and technical broadcast specifications. They act as the central point of accountability on a production, making real-time decisions to keep shoots on schedule and resolving issues that arise in the edit or on set.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and manage production schedules, budgets, and call sheets
- Coordinate directors, camera crews, editors, and on-screen talent
- Oversee scriptwriting, storyboarding, and editorial direction
- Ensure all content meets broadcast technical standards (codecs, aspect ratios, loudness specs)
- Manage post-production workflows including editing, colour grade, and audio mix
- Liaise with commissioners, clients, or channel executives on delivery requirements
