Summary: 

Mujin is the future of industrial robotic systems in production and distribution environments. Our technology gives robots perception and awareness, enabling them to take on more advanced tasks. We aim to revolutionize the use of robotics within industry to free human resources from labor-intensive tasks to focus on more intellectual challenges.

 

We are seeking a Technical Writer who combines an engineering education with strong English-language and communication skills. The ideal candidate has an engineering major and an English minor, technical communication minor, professional writing concentration, or equivalent demonstrated writing experience. This combination enables the writer to understand complex products, systems, drawings, specifications, and processes, then translate that information into clear, accurate, user-focused documentation for technical and non-technical audiences. The role partners closely with developers, engineers, product teams, field personnel, and other subject matter experts to create documentation for software, hardware, robotics, industrial equipment, operations, maintenance, integration, and product knowledge transfer.

                                                                                                                                       

Position Description:

  • Apply engineering fundamentals to understand product architecture, system behavior, equipment operation, maintenance needs, technical risks, and user workflows.
  • Translate complex engineering concepts, technical data, drawings, specifications, test results, and research findings into clear, concise, and accurate content.
  • Work directly with developers, engineers, and other technical staff to validate that documentation reflects current processes, product functionality, design intent, and safe equipment use.
  • Write and maintain user manuals, operator and maintenance manuals, troubleshooting content, how-to guides, integration guides, API and developer documentation, system instructions, and internal knowledge resources.
  • Determine effective structures and layouts for complex manuals and technical documentation based on audience, task, system complexity, and information hierarchy.
  • Interview subject matter experts, observe technical work, review source material, and ask precise follow-up questions to close information gaps.
  • Edit technical content for clarity, impact, flow, meaning, consistency, accuracy, grammar, terminology, and readability across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Create diagrams, annotated visuals, examples, and other explanatory content that improve understanding of engineering systems and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate technical, terminology, safety, and content reviews occur and that approved updates are incorporated into published documentation.
  • Develop schedules and plans for documentation projects, manage review cycles, and deliver quality content on time.
  • Conduct usability reviews or validation activities to confirm that users can successfully follow the documentation.
  • Define and maintain documentation standards, templates, style guidance, taxonomy, metadata, and governance practices while supporting scalable onboarding, training, and product knowledge management frameworks.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, computer, systems, industrial, robotics, mechatronics, software, or a related engineering field with
  • 3+ years of relevant technical writing, engineering documentation, product documentation, or closely related experience.
  • Ability to understand engineering concepts and explain them in clear, concise language for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, schematics, workflows, test information, or engineering source material.
  • Experience with documentation tools, content management systems, publishing software, and collaborative review workflows.
  • Strong command of English grammar, usage, structure, editing, and information organization.
  • Strong attention to technical detail, accuracy, consistency, traceability, and version control.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and independently identify missing, ambiguous, or conflicting technical information.



Desired:

  • English minor, technical communication minor, professional writing concentration, or equivalent demonstrated coursework and writing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Engineering experience or significant hands-on exposure to robotics, industrial automation, material handling, manufacturing, software, hardware, or related technologies.
  • Experience creating operator, maintenance, system integration, API, developer, troubleshooting, or safety-related documentation.
  • Experience with structured content, information architecture, taxonomy, metadata, documentation governance, or knowledge management practices.
  • Familiarity with engineering development lifecycles, change control, configuration management, validation, and release processes.
  • Ability to create or interpret technical illustrations, diagrams, process maps, and annotated equipment images.
  • Portfolio samples that demonstrate both technical depth and polished English-language communication.



Physical Demands/ Work Environment:  

  • Travel Requirement: Less than 10%.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to work extended hours as required
  • May need to visit sites per project needs
