Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the PQ Scene of Crime (SOC) Reporting Team at Birchwood Park. The role involves the interpretation and reporting of SOC cases, supporting the provision of high-quality investigative intelligence to police forces, and ultimately assisting in the progression and resolution of criminal investigations.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, with one weekend in every four. Where a weekend is worked, one day off in lieu will be provided the following week. A shift allowance is payable for this working pattern.

As a SOC Reporter, you will integrate seamlessly into this experienced group while also bringing fresh momentum and added capability. Your contributions will enhance the team’s capacity to deliver clear, reliable intelligence and maintain the exceptional standards for which the unit is known.

The role holder will be responsible for carrying out the interpretation of DNA profiling results and reporting of results to customers via relevant methods. In addition to interpretation, training in relevant addendum tasks when required.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Deliver fast, accurate data entry that keeps our operations moving.
• Adhere to all aspects of the customer Operational Protocol and EFS Quality Manual.
• Carry out necessary interpretation as per standard operating procedures to required timescales
• Completion of checks associated with the integrity of the National DNA Database (NDNAD)
• Responsible and accountable for the results sent to the customer
• Report any non-conformances or near misses
• Communicate reporting progress with the Production Supervisor and escalate any issues that may arise
• Communicate with Production Supervisor and/or Line Manager with regards to progress of non-casework tasks
• Assist with aspects of Science and Quality that fall within the skills of the individual.
• Responsibility for individual daily time booking on the relevant system.
• Seek continual improvement of methodology and processes that will have a positive impact on quality and effectiveness. Raise ideas at team meetings and huddles
• Ensure all notes are contemporaneous, signed and dated as per standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

• No DNA interpretation competence required
• Minimum qualifications of A-Levels/BTEC in science related subject
• Embraces change and continuous improvement

• Ownership of an individual training logs and PCR document to ensure competence is gained, maintained and demonstrated.

Important Information

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, this role will require the successful candidate to achieve NPPV3 + Security Clearance (SC). To be eligible, you must have 5 years’ continuous UK residency.

As part of the vetting process, you’ll be asked to provide information about your background, including your employment and address history, financial circumstances and details of close family or partners. These checks are carried out to ensure individuals accessing police data, systems and sites are trustworthy and suitable for the role.

Factors such as criminal convictions, financial difficulties or associations that may pose a risk could affect your ability to gain clearance. However, each application is assessed on an individual basis, and honesty throughout the process is essential.

• Drug and alcohol testing may be required before you start and during your employment
• Ongoing employment is subject to maintaining the required level of clearance
