Finishing Editor, Scout Studios job description

Here at Scout Motors, we're carrying forward the heritage of one of the most iconic American vehicles in history. A vehicle dating back to 1960. One that forged the path for future generations of rugged SUVs and trucks and will do so once again.

But Scout is more than just a brand, it’s a legacy steeped in a culture of exploration, caretaking, and hard work.

The Scout brand is all about respect. Respect for the past and the future by taking an iconic American brand that hasn’t been around for a while, electrifying it, digitizing it, and loading it with American innovation. Respect for communities by creating a company that stands for its people and its customers. Respect for both work and play, with vehicles that are equally at home at a camp site, a job site, or on a Tuesday commute. And respect for our customers by developing two powertrains that meet their requirements — an all-electric powertrain as well as the Harvester™ range extender powertrain which includes a built-in gas-powered generator with an estimated 500 miles of combined range.

At Scout Motors, we empower our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams to innovate. What makes a Scout employee? Someone who is a visionary and a leader, who seeks new paths and shares lessons learned. A knowledgeable doer who collaborates across the company to build better. A go-getter with unrivaled passion.

Overview

Scout Studios is looking for a Finishing Editor with a highly developed visual eye and an obsession with the final 20%.

This role will own the finishing stage of Scout Studios' visual work, across video and photo, helping take projects from editorial approval to polished, consistent, world-class final assets.

You'll work closely with our Post-Production Specialist, Creative Lead, Producer, Cinematographer, and external partners to establish and maintain the visual finish of Scout storytelling across episodic films, campaigns, product storytelling, social content, photography, events, and other brand work.

Color is at the heart of the role, but we're looking for a multidisciplinary finishing artist who understands the entire post-production process: conform, cleanup, retouching, sound, graphics integration, mastering, versioning, QC, and delivery.

You'll also have the editorial ability to take on select projects independently, particularly shorter-form and fast-turn work.

The goal is simple: when something leaves Scout Studios, this role makes sure it feels complete.

Why Scout Studios

Scout Studios is building a visual archive of Scout's return — not simply producing marketing assets.

That creates a rare opportunity to help establish the visual language of a brand from the beginning.

You'll be one of the final sets of eyes on our work and help define what "finished by Scout Studios" looks and feels like.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Own color grading and visual finishing across Scout Studios' premium video content.
  • Develop a recognizable, consistent visual language across Scout's growing body of film and content.
  • Collaborate with our creative teams from pre-production onward to establish capture, color, and finishing approaches.
  • Conform projects from editorial and prepare timelines for final finishing.
  • Perform color correction, creative grading, shot matching, cleanup, stabilization, reframing, and other finishing work.
  • Handle or coordinate final sound design, mix, graphics, VFX, and finishing requirements.
  • Perform beauty work, cleanup, compositing, and visual retouching where appropriate.
  • Support photographic color, retouching, and finishing needs across campaign and editorial imagery when needed.
  • Ensure consistency across footage captured on different cameras, formats, locations, and production environments.
  • Build and maintain color-management workflows, LUTs, project standards, presets, and finishing pipelines.
  • Master projects for YouTube, social platforms, broadcast, web, events, large-format displays, internal presentations, and other destinations.
  • Oversee final QC before assets leave Scout Studios.
  • Manage versioning, codecs, color spaces, aspect ratios, captions, exports, and delivery specifications.
  • Work with editorial and production teams to maintain clean handoffs and organized project structures.
  • Edit select short-form, social, internal, and quick-turn projects when needed.
  • Help Scout Studios continuously improve its post-production infrastructure and workflow.

Who you are

You notice the details most people don't.

A mismatched black level bothers you. Skin tones matter. You notice when a shot is technically correct but emotionally wrong. You understand when an image needs polish, but also when it needs to retain its raw grit.

You're equally interested in craft and storytelling. You don't grade simply to make an image beautiful; you grade to make the story feel holistic, with each image serving the purpose of telling the story.

You're also comfortable operating in a growing internal studio where roles overlap. Sometimes you'll finish a flagship film. Sometimes you'll retouch photography. Sometimes you'll jump into an edit because something needs to ship tomorrow.

You take pride in all of it.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
  • This will primarily be a post-production role, but occasional travel to productions may be required to collaborate with cinematographers and directors, establish workflows, manage on-set color, or support major Scout Studios projects.
  • Travel: Domestic travel required, approximately 5-10% of the time. Valid driver's license required.

What you’ll bring

We expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You’ll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You’ll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. Here's what else you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of professional color, finishing, post-production, or editorial experience.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating sophisticated color grading and finishing work.
  • Expert knowledge of DaVinci Resolve and modern color-management workflows.
  • Understanding of professional cinema-camera workflows, codecs, RAW formats, log workflows, and color science.
  • Experience conforming projects from major NLEs.
  • Working proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and the broader Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem.
  • Strong editorial instincts and the ability to independently edit select projects.
  • Understanding of sound design, mixing, graphics, VFX, mastering, and delivery workflows.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong file-management and organizational habits.
  • Ability to move between premium long-form work and fast-turn content without compromising quality.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required for all roles at Scout Motors, Inc.

Preferred

  • Experience finishing automotive, outdoor, lifestyle, documentary, fashion, or premium commercial work.
  • Experience working with ARRI, RED, Sony Cinema Line, and other professional cinema systems.
  • Photography retouching experience.
  • After Effects, Flame, Fusion, or comparable compositing/VFX experience.
  • Sound-design or audio-post experience.
  • Experience developing LUTs and show looks with cinematographers.
  • Understanding of HDR finishing and emerging display standards.
  • Experience helping establish an internal post-production or finishing pipeline.
