About the Job:

The Baltimore Banner is looking for an analytical, audience-driven Digital Editor to curate, edit, and publish content on multiple platforms. The editor will collaborate across the organization to look for opportunities to elevate our journalism, especially for Baltimore Banner subscribers.

The editor will help ensure daily content is optimized with social and search-friendly headlines, work on packaging-related stories across the site, newsletters, and social and make programming decisions based on real-time and historical analytics.

The editor will also work with the Audience Director to craft best practices for the newsroom. They will help manage special projects and be ambassadors for new tools to execute and elevate our coverage.

Responsibilities:

• Curate, edit, and publish news and other online content throughout the day
• Optimize content for search and social
• Generate content creation ideas
• Send news alerts
• Curate mobile app
• Track metrics and make decisions on website programming
• Help manage unique project production
• Work with the audience team on social-driven content packages

Requirements:

• At least five years of experience at a news organization
• Experience working with writers and editors to optimize their content
• Experience writing clear, sharp headlines aimed at online audiences
• Experience using analytics programs and using data to make programming decisions
• Teamwork and willingness to collaborate with others
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to give and receive constructive feedback
• Willingness to work some nights and weekends as news dictates
• A commitment to upholding journalist values and ethics
