Head of Developer Relations job description
ClickHouse started as an open-source project that developers picked up on their own, told each other about, and built companies on. That community is still the reason most people first hear of us, and it is why ClickHouse Cloud fills with new users every day. As the database becomes a platform for real-time analytics, data warehousing, observability, and AI workloads, the community has more to learn from us and more to teach us than ever. Developer relations is how we hold up our end of that relationship.
As Head of Developer Relations, you'll lead our global team of developer advocates and give community the goals, systems, and investment of a core growth channel. You'll partner closely with product marketing engineers, field marketing in every region, and product and engineering, and you'll inherit a strong, globally distributed team and a community that has been generous with us for years. If you believe developer relations starts with helping people, that trust is the only thing that compounds, and that the work should be measured like any other growth investment, this is a rare seat.
What You Will Be Doing
Lead, coach, and grow a globally distributed team of developer advocates, and set the strategy for how ClickHouse shows up to developers online and in person
Own the Developer Relations budget and the investment decisions behind it
Be a public face of ClickHouse: present product demos and technical talks on stage and host a podcast
Set targets for community growth and engagement across Slack, Reddit, GitHub, YouTube, and your advocates' own platforms, and report on them like any growth channel
Build the champions program into a real force, with clear tracks for customers, open-source users, and independent voices, so the community grows the community
Run the developer-event portfolio with intent: meetups, conference talks, and practitioner-led sessions where attendance becomes a signal the business can use
Partner with product marketing engineers and the organic and AEO team on a shared publishing map (which channels matter most, what belongs on each, and who owns it) and on technical content that works for how developers learn now, in docs, in video, and through AI assistants
Work with regional field marketing to support in-region developer programs and the startup and partner ecosystem, and own the feedback loop into product and engineering on what developers are building, where they get stuck, and what they want next
What You Bring
Experience leading a developer relations or community team at an infrastructure company, with direct management of 4 or more people and strong leadership of a distributed team
Deep technical skill: you can write the demo, ship the tutorial, and go deep with engineers on how a database works
Experience running developer events and speaking programs where the room was chosen with intent, including presenting product demos and technical talks on stage
Experience building or scaling developer programs, including a champions, ambassador, or MVP program, with a track record of innovation
Experience putting numbers on community work and defending them, from growth and engagement to the connection with signups and pipeline, without turning advocates into salespeople
Comfort operating globally and cross-functionally with product, engineering, product marketing, and field teams
Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time
DevRel or community leadership around an open-source project with a real community, and experience growing that community without losing its trust
Preferred: an established public presence, such as 1,000+ LinkedIn followers
