What does a CRO Specialist do?
A CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) Specialist analyses user behaviour across websites, landing pages, and funnels to identify friction points that prevent visitors from converting. They design and run structured A/B and multivariate tests, interpret results using statistical methods, and implement winning changes in collaboration with design and development teams. Day-to-day work involves pulling data from analytics platforms, building test hypotheses grounded in qualitative and quantitative research, and reporting on experiment outcomes to stakeholders. The role sits at the intersection of data analysis, UX thinking, and marketing strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and execute A/B and multivariate tests across web pages and user flows
- Analyse user behaviour using heatmaps, session recordings, and funnel analytics
- Develop data-backed hypotheses to improve conversion rates
- Collaborate with designers and developers to implement test variants
- Report on experiment results, statistical significance, and revenue impact
- Conduct user research including surveys and usability testing to surface qualitative insights

Degree in marketing, psychology, statistics, or a related field; portfolio of test results and measurable uplifts often weighted equally to formal qualifications.
Career path
