AECOM is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to be based in South Africa's Enterprise Capabilities office in Centurion. This position will support a team locally based in South Africa and Global Teams. Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer/Editor to support the development, editing, and coordination of technical documents in a fast-paced team environment. This role is responsible for producing clear, accurate, and well-organized reports, specifications, and related materials while ensuring quality, consistency, and timely delivery across multiple projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of scientific and technical language, enabling the production of deliverables that uphold the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and compliance.

Here is what you will do:

  • Write, edit, proofread, and format technical reports, specifications, manuals, and other project documents.
  • Coordinate document input from multiple technical disciplines to support consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Review documents for grammar, punctuation, style, formatting, and readability.
  • Incorporate reviewer comments and project revisions accurately and efficiently.
  • Support preparation of client-ready deliverables, proposals, and internal documents.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, planners, and other contributors to organize and refine technical content.
  • Maintain templates, standards, and editorial consistency across recurring documents.
  • Help ensure documents meet internal quality expectations and professional presentation standards.
  • Support document archiving and retrieval processes in strict alignment with corporate policies, project specifications, and legal/regulatory mandates.
  • Apply Microsoft Word skills for advanced formatting, template management, and automation to produce polished, publication-ready documents.

    Here’s what we’re looking for:

    • Excellent command of English grammar, spelling and business writing conventions.
    • Impeccable attention to detail, with a proven track record of producing high-quality, error-free technical documents and reports.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts clearly.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in technical writing, technical editing, document production, or a related field.
    • Strong proofreading, editing, and formatting skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work with cross-functional teams.
    • Expert level proficiency with Microsoft Word and other document production tools.
    • Strong proficiency in other Microsoft 365 suite programs (Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Teams)
    • Experience supporting engineering, planning, environmental, or other technical documentation is preferred.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Prior experience in technical editing or content development within environmental remediation or related scientific/engineering sectors.
    • In-depth knowledge of document management best practices, including workflow automation and multi-user digital file access.
    • Proven leadership and delegation skills, with experience managing and mentoring technical editing teams.
    • Experience preparing client-facing deliverables for large-scale, multidisciplinary projects.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in English, Information Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
