About the Role



We’re looking for a Instructional Designer that will design and develop practical, engaging learning experiences that help RNGD employees build and apply the capabilities needed to perform their work successfully. Working across all Renegade Academy development portfolios, this role partners with Learning Managers and subject matter experts to translate business knowledge, technical expertise, processes, and defined development needs into scalable learning solutions. The Instructional Designer supports instructor-led, virtual, digital, hands-on, and on-the-job development while ensuring Academy learning is consistent, accessible, and grounded in real-world applications.


Core Responsibilities



  • Learning Curriculum Designer
    • Translate defined capability, development, and performance needs into practical learning
    • Design courses, programs, learning paths, workshops, and blended learning
    • Develop clear     learning     objectives,      activities,      assessments,        application opportunities, and reinforcement strategies.
    • Recommend the most effective learning method based on the audience, content, work environment, and desired outcome.
    • Apply adult-learning and instructional-design principles while keeping the learner experience practical, engaging, and easy to navigate.


  • Content Development and Productions
    • Develop instructor-led and virtual training materials, eLearning, facilitator guides, participant workbooks, job aids, assessments, videos, presentations, and performance-support
    • Create practical learning experiences using scenarios, case studies, simulations, exercises, and real-world applications.
    • Organize complex information into clear, concise, and learner-friendly
    • Create and maintain reusable Renegade Academy templates, tools, and content-development
    • Review and update existing content as business needs, processes, systems, and requirements


  • Subject Matter Expert and Stakeholder Partnership
    • Partner with Learning Managers and subject matter experts to identify the knowledge, skills, and behaviors employees need to perform successfully.
    • Lead content-development conversations that capture technical, business, and institutional knowledge and translate it into effective learning.
    • Help stakeholders distinguish between information employees need to understand, resources they need to reference, and skills they need to practice and demonstrate.
    • Equip instructors, facilitators, and subject matter experts with the materials and resources needed to deliver learning effectively.
    • Incorporate stakeholder feedback while maintaining sound instructional-design and Academy


  • Assessment, Application, and Learning Effectiveness
    • Develop knowledge checks, assessments, practice activities, and application tools aligned with established learning
    • Partner with Learning Managers and subject matter experts to determine how capability and proficiency should be demonstrated or verified.
    • Design reinforcement and performance-support resources that help employees transfer learning to their work.
    • Use learner feedback and available participation, assessment, and performance data to improve learning solutions.
    • Recommend updates that strengthen learner engagement, knowledge retention, and on-the-job


  • Learning Experience Quality, Technology, and Project Delivery
    • Manage multiple learning-design projects from initial discovery through development, testing, implementation, and improvement.
    • Use learning technologies and content-authoring tools to develop and maintain digital and blended learning experiences.
    • Test and quality-check instructor-led, virtual, and digital materials before launch for accuracy, functionality, consistency, and accessibility.
    • Partner with Learning Operations to configure, test, publish, and maintain learning within Renegade Academy.
    • Support development needs across New Hire Success, Cultural and Professional Development, Leadership Development, Trades and Craft, and Operational
    • Manage priorities, timelines, and stakeholder expectations based on Academy


  • Work Environment and Physical Requirements
    • Work at a computer for extended periods while designing, developing, and reviewing learning
    • Communicate and collaborate in virtual, office, classroom, and field-based learning
    • Stand, walk, and assist with arranging or testing training materials and equipment as
    • Travel to RNGD offices, training locations, and project sites as
    • Safely navigate active construction environments and comply with applicable safety and personal protective equipment requirements.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, training and development, communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be
  • Experience designing and developing instructor-led, virtual, digital, blended, hands-on, or on-the-job learning solutions.
  • Working knowledge of adult-learning principles, instructional-design methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment design.
  • Experience using eLearning authoring tools, learning management systems, presentation software, video or multimedia tools, and other learning technologies.
  • Strong writing, editing, visual communication, and information-organization
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical or business information into practical, learner-friendly content.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, design projects, and stakeholder
  • Experience supporting learning within construction, skilled trades, operations, or another field-based environment preferred.
  • A portfolio or work samples demonstrating instructional-design and content-development capabilities preferred.
