What does a Gaming Community Manager do?
A Gaming Community Manager owns the relationship between a game studio or streaming brand and its player base. Day-to-day, they moderate and grow communities on platforms like Discord, Reddit, and Twitch; create community-facing content such as patch notes summaries, event announcements, and AMAs; gather and relay player feedback to internal development and marketing teams; and run live in-game or streaming events. They act as the public voice of the brand within the community while also being the community's advocate inside the company.
Key responsibilities
- Moderate and grow Discord servers, subreddits, and game forums
- Plan and run community events, tournaments, and live-stream activations
- Write community updates, patch note summaries, and announcements
- Collect and synthesise player feedback for product and development teams
- Identify, recruit, and manage community moderators and ambassador programmes
- Track community health metrics such as engagement rate, sentiment, and member growth

No fixed degree requirement; backgrounds in communications, marketing, or game design are common, but a strong portfolio of community work is typically weighted equally.
Career path
